Screens & pairing

A screen is a physical display registered to your account. Any device with a modern browser — a smart TV, a media-player stick, a mini PC, a tablet — can be a Vewport screen.

Pair a screen

  1. On the display, open the player URL in a browser. It shows a 6-character pairing code (and a QR code).
  2. In Vewport, go to Screens → Add screen.
  3. Enter the 6-character code (or scan the QR). The screen registers to your organization.

The player URL has the form https://<player-host>/<org>/<screen>. For keyboard-less displays you can pass the code in the URL (?code=ABC123) so it pairs hands-free.

Assign content

  1. Open the screen from the Screens list.
  2. On the Content tab, choose a playlist to assign. (Hover the ? next to the content controls for guidance.)
  3. The screen begins playing within a few seconds. The Now Playing card shows what's live.

Express path: the Content tab also offers a one-step flow — pick a design and Vewport builds the composition, playlist, and assignment for you.

Screen content can also be driven by schedules, and an emergency override can push priority content to a screen immediately.

Status and health

The screen list and detail view show online/offline status, a live snapshot, the assigned playlist name, and recent issues. You can filter the list by playlist.

The pairing security model

  • A screen has a derived locked state: it is locked once it holds a pairing token (it has been paired) and unlocked before that.
  • An unlocked screen shows a Generate pairing code button so you can mint a fresh code and QR.
  • A locked (paired) screen hides that button. To re-pair it, unlock it first.
  • Pairing codes are short-lived and single-use for registration; the screen then holds a long-lived token rather than re-entering a code.

See the admin guide for the administrator's view of this model.

Video walls

To span content across several displays, combine them into a video wall. A screen that belongs to a wall shows a slice of the wall's canvas, not its own playlist.
